Brendan Fernandes Stages Performances at Guggenheim
Artist Brendan Fernandes choreographed performative interventions in the Guggenheim’s iconic Frank Lloyd Wright–designed rotunda during the museum’s 2019 Young Collectors Party on April 11, 2019. Conjuring what the artist calls “ballet kink,” Fernandes’s performances, staged continuously throughout the evening, explored notions of desire, labor, and power through choreography drawn from classical ballet and modern dance, with a nod to fetish clubs and the Japanese bondage art of shibari.
